Iran Sends Nuclear Proposal to US, Sets 7 Conditions for Talks Amid Trump’s Threat
Iran has sent a new nuclear proposal to the United States through Qatar, laying down seven conditions that Washington must fulfil before Tehran agrees to negotiations, Reuters reported, quoting a senior Iranian official.
The proposal comes amid rising tensions following US President Donald Trump’s latest threat to “destroy” the remaining parts of the Islamic Republic.
Iran’s demands reportedly include a complete end to hostilities, lifting of US sanctions and the naval blockade on Iranian ports, release of frozen Iranian assets, reduction of US military presence in the region, compensation for war damages and an end to attacks on Iranian territory. The conditions may also cover the conflict in Lebanon.
Iran’s top security official Mohsen Rezaei had earlier said Tehran would neither reopen the Strait of Hormuz nor engage in negotiations until Washington fulfilled its seven demands.
The development comes as international mediators step up efforts to end the conflict, amid fears of renewed military confrontation between the two countries after the US midterm elections.
