India thrash South Korea 8-2, continue winning run at Asian Games

The Indian men’s hockey team maintained its impressive start to the 2026 Asian Games with a commanding 8-2 victory over South Korea on Thursday, their biggest-ever win against the Koreans in Asian Games history.

The defending champions registered their third straight victory in Pool A, strengthening their position in the race for a semi-final spot.

Dilpreet Singh and Abhishek scored two goals each, while Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Shilanand Lakra and Rajinder Singh scored one apiece.

India dominated from the opening quarter, racing to a 4-0 lead by the first break. Dilpreet added his second in the third quarter, while Abhishek completed his brace to make it 7-0.

South Korea pulled two goals back through JaeHo Kim and Yong Bok Kim, but India remained in control before Rajinder Singh’s late penalty-corner strike sealed the 8-2 victory.

The match was also special for Vivek Sagar Prasad, who completed 200 senior international appearances for India.

India will next face hosts Japan on September 26.
