The Assam State film Awards was instituted to recognize and honour excellence in filmmaking in the state. Assamese cinema has certainly come a long way ever since the 1st Assamese film “Joymoti” was released on the 10th of March 1935 producing several cultural icons who remain immortal through their immense contributions to the realm of Assamese theatre, films, music, and culture.
