Govt Restricts Use of “Assam Baibhav”, “Assam Saurabh” and “Assam Gaurav” Titles to Prevent Misuse

In a move to protect the sanctity of its highest civilian honours, the Government of Assam has issued a directive prohibiting the unauthorized use of the titles “Assam Baibhav,” “Assam Saurabh,” and “Assam Gaurav” by any institution, organization, or individual.

The order comes after it was observed that certain entities were using these titles in various official and unofficial capacities, leading to potential misrepresentation, confusion, and false association with the prestigious state awards.

The government clarified that these titles—officially instituted as Assam’s highest civilian awards via Order No. GAG(B).140/2021/122 dated December 23, 2021—must not be used without explicit authorization from the state. Unauthorized use, it warned, could mislead the public and undermine the authenticity and exclusivity of the honours.

“In the interest of preserving the dignity and uniqueness of these awards, the use of the nomenclature ‘Assam Baibhav,’ ‘Assam Saurabh,’ and ‘Assam Gaurav’ by any non-authorized entity is strictly prohibited,” the directive stated.

The government has urged all stakeholders to adhere to the directive to maintain the integrity of the awards and avoid any legal consequences.
