Guwahati, June 28 (NKTV): The nation has been on alert because of the rise of the Delta Plus Variant of Covid-19; however, it is yet to be detected in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in a press meet yesterday.

“We are doing genomic sequencing but as of now we have not found the Delta Plus variant in Assam” the CM said. “However, the Delta variant is predominant in Assam and we are dealing with it” he added.

Meanwhile, the Centre has informed that the Delta Plus variant has a greater affinity for lung tissues as compared to other strains of Covid-19.

“It is not clear if it causes lung damage or not. It also does not mean that this variant will cause more severe disease or it is more transmissible” said Dr. NK Arora, Head of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI).

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Friday had said that one Covid-19 positive patient had died of the Delta variant in the state and the strain was found in 77% of the samples Tested in April and May at the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics at Kalyani in West Bengal.
