Deadline for Padma Awards 2026 nominations extended to August 15

25

The Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the last date for submitting nominations and recommendations for the prestigious Padma Awards 2026. Initially scheduled to close on July 31, the new deadline is now August 15.

The nominations can be submitted through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at https://awards.gov.in. The process for the 2026 awards cycle began on March 15, and the final list of awardees will be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, January 26, 2026.

Instituted in 1954, the Padma Awards — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — are among India’s highest civilian honors. These awards recognize individuals for distinguished and exceptional service in a wide range of disciplines, including Art, Literature and Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science and Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade and Industry, among others.

The Government reiterated that all citizens, regardless of race, occupation, position or gender, are eligible to be nominated. However, serving government officials (excluding doctors and scientists) and employees of Public Sector Undertakings are not eligible for these awards.

In line with its vision to make the awards more inclusive and representative, the Government has emphasized its commitment to transforming the Padma Awards into the “People’s Padma.” Citizens are encouraged to actively participate by nominating individuals who have made outstanding contributions, especially those from women, SC/ST communities, differently-abled persons, and other underrepresented groups involved in selfless service to society.

Each nomination must include complete details as per the format available on the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal. A citation in narrative form, not exceeding 800 words, must be submitted to highlight the exceptional achievements or service of the nominee in their respective field.

More information and relevant documents can be found on the Ministry of Home Affairs website at https://mha.gov.in and the official Padma Awards Portal at https://padmaawards.gov.in, including rules and guidelines under the “About Awards” section.
