In a step aimed at improving emergency healthcare access in the Barak Valley, the State Bank of India (SBI) has extended its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) support for launching an ambulance service in Sribhumi district in collaboration with the Indian Awaz Foundation.
The ambulance service was formally flagged off at the State Bank of India Karimganj Main Branch on Friday afternoon in the presence of officials from the district administration and the healthcare sector.
Among those present at the event were Moon Gogoi, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad, Sribhumi; Mehebubul Hassan, Assistant Commissioner of Sribhumi; Matindra Sutradhar, Joint Director of Health & Family Welfare Services, Sribhumi; and Safiqul Islam, District Agriculture Officer of Sribhumi. Nazim Ahmed, Founder and Director of the Indian Awaz Foundation, was also present on the occasion.
Kripanath Mallah, Member of Parliament, conveyed his best wishes for the initiative through his representatives and appreciated the effort to strengthen emergency healthcare services in the district.
Officials said the ambulance service aims to improve emergency medical transportation, especially for people living in rural and economically vulnerable communities who often face difficulties accessing timely healthcare.
The Indian Awaz Foundation has been involved in various social initiatives across the Barak Valley since 2021. Its activities began with the Barak Awards, which recognised individuals and contributors from the region, and later expanded to include community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns and disaster relief efforts.
During the Assam floods, the organisation also carried out relief activities under its “Aid for Assam” initiative to support affected communities.
Through its continued work in Sribhumi district, the foundation identified the need for improved emergency transportation services. The newly launched ambulance, supported under SBI’s CSR programme, is expected to help address this gap and provide quicker medical assistance during emergencies.
Representatives of both SBI and the Indian Awaz Foundation said they would continue to explore further CSR partnerships and community initiatives aimed at supporting development and improving public welfare in the region.
