Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday attended the ceremonial collection of soil from villages at Gaon Panchayat under the Amrit Kalash Yatra, a component of the ongoing Meri Maati, Mera Desh campaign, at an event held at Dharapur locality in Guwahati. Meri Maati, Mera Desh is a nation-wide campaign called upon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remember the martyred bravehearts who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting the honour and integrity of the nation.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said the nation has attained many feats in the 75 years of Independence and it is apt that Bharat now attains its rightful position of a world leader on all fronts. With this objective in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon every citizen of India to celebrate the years leading to 2047 — the 100th year of Independence — as the Amrit Kaal, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said, adding that Meri Maati, Mera Desh campaign is a part of that very Amrit Kaal.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said it is a matter of immense pride that every households have come out wholeheartedly with a handful of soil under the Meri Maati, Mera Desh campaign which will eventually be used to build an “Amrit Udyaan” near the War Memorial in New Delhi. He expressed great satisfaction at the overwhelming support the Meri Maati, Mera Desh and Amrit Kalash Yatra campaigns have managed to garner across the nooks and corners of the State. Soils collected in the campaigns in the State would also be utilised to build a number of public institutions at Panchayat, Block, etc. levels, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said, adding that they would also be utilized during the construction of the proposed University to be named after martyr of the Freedom movement Kanaklata Baruah at Gohpur.

Referring to the 75 years of the nation’s journey after Independence as one that was tough but eventful, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma lauded the indomitable sprite of the countrymen, sprite severe adversarial conditions, that led to the nation attaining a leading position at many fields such as science and technology, economic growth, military strength, among others.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma exuded confidence under the abled leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country would script new chapters of success and glory in every fields in days to come.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma, at the event, also felicitated a number of retired soldiers belonging to the locality who had served in the armed forces, paramilitary forces, state police forces.

Member of Parliament Queen Ojha, Member of Legislative Assembly Ramendra Narayan Kalita, District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) Pallab Gopal Jha were also present in the event.
