Centre okays three new airlines amid Indigo chaos

15

India’s aviation sector may soon see more choice for passengers after the government cleared three new airlines to start preparations for flying. Shankh Air, Al Hind Air and FlyExpress have received no objection certificates from the civil aviation ministry, as the government looks to reduce heavy dependence on a few airlines following recent disruption at IndiGo.

The approvals come at a time when India’s domestic aviation sector is growing fast, but competition remains limited.

Together, these new players are expected to slowly add more options in a market that is currently controlled by a few large airlines.
