Asian Games 2026: Assam’s O Amarjit Singh to Represent India in Sepak Takraw
Assam’s emerging Sepak Takraw player O Amarjit Singh will represent India at the upcoming Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Nagoya and Aichi, Japan, from September 19.
Hailing from Nayagram village in Assam’s Cachar district, Amarjit will compete for India in the men’s team event and regu event in Sepak Takraw at the continental sporting extravaganza.
The 25-member Indian Sepak Takraw contingent, including Amarjit, will leave New Delhi for Japan tomorrow. The squad comprises 12 male and nine female players, along with two male and two female coaches.
Amarjit has already made his mark on the international stage. He won bronze medals at the 2025 and 2026 King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Championships, held in Thailand.
He has also represented India at several international tournaments. At the 5th South Asian Sepak Takraw Championship in Kathmandu in 2024, Amarjit won two gold medals. He later secured a bronze medal at the ISTAF Sepak Takraw Asian Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 2025.
At the upcoming Asian Games, Amarjit will compete in both the regu and team events, adding another major chapter to his international career.
The Assam Sepak Takraw Association has extended its best wishes to Amarjit. Association president and MLA Bhavesh Kalita, general secretary Bishnuram Nunisa, and other members expressed hope that the Assam player will put up a strong performance and win a medal for the country at the Asian Games.
