Assam State Cabinet Approves Key Initiatives in Health, Land Allotment & Environmental Reforms

The Assam State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, convened today in Dispur, announcing significant decisions to bolster healthcare, land management, and environmental governance. The announcements were made by Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal, and Minister of Industries, Commerce, Public Enterprises, and Cultural Affairs, Bimal Borah, during a press conference following the meeting.

Health & Family Welfare Department
The Cabinet approved a hike in incentives for ASHA workers and supervisors, effective from October 1, 2025. The monthly honorarium for 33,656 ASHA workers will increase from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000, while 2,675 ASHA supervisors will see their monthly honorarium rise from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 10,200.

Revenue & Disaster Management Department
Under Mission Basundhara 3.0, the Cabinet greenlit land allotments for 1,011 non-individual juridical entities, including educational, religious, and socio-cultural institutions across Sonitpur (464 proposals), Golaghat (306), Majuli (205), and Kamrup (36) districts. Additionally, 146 government institutions, including schools, offices, health centers, Anganwadi Centers, and other infrastructure projects in urban areas of Sonitpur (108) and Golaghat (38) districts, were approved for land settlement under the same initiative.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department
The Cabinet approved renaming the Pollution Control Board, Assam, to the Assam Pollution Control Board, streamlining its identity for greater clarity and efficiency.

Cultural Affairs Update
Minister Bimal Borah announced that the Srimanta Sankardeva Award 2023 ceremony will take place on June 12, 2025, at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra. The prestigious award, instituted in 1986 to honor contributions to art, culture, and literature, will be conferred by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, representing the President of India, to renowned classical dancer Smt. Sonal Mansingh. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and a citation.
