Assam emerged champions of the 2nd North East Little Masters Cricket Trophy (Under-14) with a commanding 159-runs victory over Tripura in the final played at the MBB Stadium, Agartala, on Thursday.
The tournament was hosted by the Tripura Cricket Association with the objective of promoting and strengthening grassroots cricket across the Northeast region.
After winning the toss, Tripura elected to field first. Assam produced a commanding batting performance to post an imposing total of 286/6 in their allotted 40 overs. Tanveer Islam led the charge with a magnificent 112 off 82 deliveries, while Binoy Krishna Debnath remained unbeaten on 64 from 54 balls. Kaustav Gogoi also made a valuable contribution with 26 runs off 34 deliveries.
For Tripura, Udayan Paul was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/48, while Bihan Das and Bijoy Deb claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Tripura were restricted to 127/7 in their allotted 40 overs. Udayan Paul top-scored with 53 off 109 balls, while Arnav Debbarma and Sachin Hassen chipped in with 18 runs each.
Assam’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and clinical performance, with Kunal Bezbaruah and Ayush Pandey picking up two wickets each. Priyam Kundu impressed with remarkable figures of 2/6, while Tanveer Islam also contributed with the ball, claiming 1 wicket for 10 runs.
The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. M Khairul Jamal Majumdar, Member, IPL Governing Council and Convener of the NE Little Masters Cricket Trophy; Mr. Upananda Debbarma, Acting President and Vice President, Tripura Cricket Association; Mr. Romen Dutta, Vice President, Assam Cricket Association; Mr. Subrata Dey, Secretary, Tripura Cricket Association; Mr. Mukuta Nanda Bhattacharjya, Apex Council Member, Assam Cricket Association; along with distinguished representatives from the cricket associations of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland, among other dignitaries.
