Dhing Health Centre Official Dr. Mukut Bora Accused of Removing Memorial Statue Plaque
A controversy has erupted at Dhing Block Primary Health Centre (FRU), where former Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mukut Bora has been accused of removing a statue and commemorative plaque installed in memory of Shravan Kumar, along with allegedly taking away various government articles from the hospital premises.
Dr. Bora was earlier transferred to South Salmara-Mankachar district following allegations of corruption and irregularities. However, fresh allegations against him have surfaced even after his transfer.
According to the complaint, on Saturday morning, Dr. Bora allegedly engaged a few individuals to remove the statue and commemorative plaque of Shravan Kumar from the hospital premises. He has also been accused of taking away various government furniture and other official materials from the office.
It may be mentioned that the commemorative plaque dedicated to Shravan Kumar was formally inaugurated on February 11, 2025, in the presence of the then Nagaon District Commissioner, Debashish Sharma. The memorial was installed as part of an initiative to beautify the hospital premises and preserve Shravan Kumar’s memory.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from the Dhing Regional Students’ Union (AASU) and concerned local residents.
Dr. Bora had also previously faced allegations of misbehaviour with doctors and healthcare workers. He was reportedly accused of physically assaulting a female healthcare worker.
Local healthcare workers and residents had earlier raised complaints against him before MP Debashish Sharma and Dhing MLA Mehboob Mukhtar. According to the complainants, the Health Department subsequently decided to transfer him.
Meanwhile, the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer of Dhing FRU has lodged a written complaint at Dhing Police Station regarding the incident.
It remains to be seen what action the police and the Health Department will take over the allegations of removal of government property and official materials.
