₹9.68 Lakh Vanishes from Customer’s Account at UCO Bank in Mazbat; Branch Manager Faces Allegations
A shocking incident at the Mazbat branch of UCO Bank in Assam’s Udalguri district has triggered concern after nearly ₹9.68 lakh allegedly went missing from a customer’s bank account. The victim has raised serious allegations against the branch manager and bank authorities over their handling of the matter.
According to the complaint, the money disappeared from the bank account of Satyendra Basumatary, a resident of Mazbat. The amount was allegedly transferred from his account to two unidentified bank accounts without his knowledge.
Following the incident, Basumatary visited the Mazbat branch of UCO Bank and approached the branch manager. However, he alleged that the bank initially failed to take the matter seriously. The branch manager reportedly told him that the bank had little role to play in recovering the missing amount.
The matter took a fresh turn after the issue reportedly created widespread concern. The missing amount subsequently reappeared in the victim’s account. However, the branch manager allegedly clarified that the amount was only a ‘shadow amount’ and not a permanent refund.
According to the victim, after he lodged a complaint with the bank, the amount was temporarily credited to his account in accordance with RBI guidelines, pending an investigation. However, he has reportedly been informed that he cannot withdraw or use the money during the investigation.
The victim further alleged that he would receive the money only if the cyber police managed to recover the transferred amount. If the investigation fails to trace and recover the money, he fears that he may not get it back.
Raising questions over the entire incident, Basumatary has alleged possible involvement of the branch manager and other bank officials and called for a proper investigation.
Meanwhile, the bank authorities’ official response to the allegations is awaited. The exact circumstances surrounding the disappearance and subsequent reappearance of the money remain to be established.
