Guwahati Hotel Bilas Inn Murder Case: Police Search at Accused Ghanakanta Gogoi’s Rented House Concludes
The police operation at the rented house of Ghanakanta Gogoi in Saukuchi, Guwahati, in connection with the Hotel Bilas Inn murder case, concluded after nearly two hours on Friday. The accused was taken to the location by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
During the operation, Gogoi reportedly attempted to speak to the media. However, police personnel did not allow him to make any statement and escorted him out of the rented house. He is currently in police custody, and Friday marks the fourth day since his arrest.
Five People Killed in Hotel Bilas Inn Shooting
The incident took place at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati at around 9 PM on Monday. Ghanakanta Gogoi is accused of opening fire and killing five people. He was arrested by Basistha Police at around 10 PM the same night.
The deceased have been identified as Bhudev Bharali (65), Helena Bharali (58), Debarshi Kashyap (39), Rinika Kashyap (30) and Narayan Das (48). Another person, identified as Satyendra Pathak (43), sustained injuries in the shooting.
A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain, has been constituted to investigate the case. The team is continuing its probe into the incident.
Nagaland Pistol Training Angle Emerges; Spy Camera Glasses Still Missing
Earlier, at around 4 AM on Thursday, Gogoi was shifted to Latashil Police Station from another location citing security concerns and to facilitate interrogation. The SIT is continuing to question him there.
During interrogation, information reportedly emerged that Gogoi had undergone pistol-firing training in Nagaland. However, police are yet to trace the special pair of glasses allegedly fitted with a hidden camera that the accused was reportedly wearing at the time of the incident.
Recovering the glasses has become an important part of the investigation. Police are continuing their probe to establish the motive behind the killings, the alleged planning of the attack and other details related to the case.
