Fresh allegations have emerged against Ghanakanta Gogoi, the prime accused in the shocking shooting incident at Hotel Bilas Inn in Guwahati’s Lachit Nagar, in which five people lost their lives. This time, questions have been raised over his address in Dibrugarh, alleged bank loans, dues to finance companies and suspected links to land dealings. According to local residents, there is neither a privately owned house nor a rented accommodation belonging to Gogoi at the address mentioned in Kumaranshiga, Dibrugarh. They claim that several people have been visiting the location in search of him over financial transactions, but have reportedly failed to find him.

According to local residents, Ghanakanta Gogoi has neither a house of his own nor a rented residence at the address in Kumaranshiga, Dibrugarh. They claim that people seeking repayment of bank loans, dues from finance companies and money related to land transactions frequently visit the address but return without finding him.

Some local residents have also alleged that Gogoi had taken money from several people through fraudulent dealings. These allegations, however, remain subject to verification by the relevant authorities.

Locals further claim that Gogoi’s elder sister lives in Nahejar village under the Borboruah area of Dibrugarh.

Amid the controversy surrounding his Dibrugarh address, details of Gogoi’s residence in Guwahati have also emerged. According to available information, he had been living with his family in a rented house on Minaram Boro Path in Saukuchi, near the Hockey Stadium.

He is believed to have lived in the rented accommodation for approximately a year.

Sources also claim that Gogoi’s family left the rented house at around 11 pm on the night of the incident. Further details regarding their departure have not been independently confirmed.

A white Tata Harrier allegedly associated with Gogoi has also come into focus. The vehicle reportedly bears the registration number AS 01 FL 8779 and has the word ‘PRESS’ written on it.

However, there is no confirmed information establishing the purpose behind the inscription or whether Gogoi had any association with a media organisation.

Gogoi, the prime accused in the Hotel Bilas Inn shooting, has been under interrogation at Paltan Bazar Police Station. Investigators are examining the alleged business dispute, the circumstances leading to the shooting and Gogoi’s previous activities.

According to reports, Gogoi allegedly used a .32-bore pistol licensed in Nagaland to carry out the shooting. He is accused of first shooting hotel owner Helena Bharali in the head from point-blank range.

The five deceased have been identified as Helena Bharali, her son Devarshi Bharali, daughter-in-law Riniki Kashyap Bharali, brother Bhudev Bharali and Narayan Das, who worked as a caretaker for Bhudev Bharali. Another person, Satyendra Pathak, sustained bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Gogoi’s reported behaviour following the incident has also attracted attention. According to sources, instead of showing visible remorse, he reportedly asked for tea and biscuits at the police station in the morning.

Reports further suggest that he had not consumed any intoxicating substances at the time of the shooting. However, any definitive assessment of his mental state and the circumstances surrounding the incident must be based on the findings of the investigation.

Another significant aspect of the investigation concerns the lease agreement and financial dealings related to Hotel Bilas Inn.

According to available information, Gogoi had spent approximately 35 lakh on the hotel’s interior work. Initially, the amount was reportedly supposed to be adjusted against the rent payable. However, a dispute allegedly developed between the two parties over the arrangement.

It has also been alleged that Gogoi had not paid rent to Helena Bharali for approximately seven months. Police are investigating whether the business dispute was the motive behind the shooting.

The incident has raised serious questions, not only about the deaths of five people in Guwahati but also about the allegations surrounding Gogoi’s Dibrugarh address and financial dealings.

While the allegations made by local residents have brought additional attention to the case, their authenticity remains to be established. Further details are expected to emerge as the police investigation progresses.
