Pragyan Ojha Appointed BCCI Men’s Selection Committee Chairman

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former India spinner Pragyan Ojha as the chairman of the men’s selection committee. Former India all-rounder Ramesh Powar has also been inducted into the five-member panel following the departure of Ajit Agarkar.

Ojha will lead the committee, which comprises Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Powar. The panel will be responsible for selecting India’s men’s teams across all formats.

Powar’s appointment followed interviews conducted by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape. After the selection process at the BCCI headquarters, the committee unanimously recommended his name.

Ojha enjoyed a successful international career, representing India in 24 Test matches, 18 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and six T20 Internationals. He claimed 113 wickets in Test cricket and played a key role in India’s bowling attack during his playing days.

Powar represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs before transitioning into coaching. He has worked with the Indian women’s cricket team and several domestic sides, including Mumbai and Gujarat. He has also served as a bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

During his tenure as head coach of the Indian women’s team, Powar was associated with a successful period that included an Asia Cup title and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, the BCCI thanked Agarkar for his contributions as chairman of the selection committee, a position he held since July 2023. According to the board, Indian cricket secured three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and two consecutive Asian Games gold medals during his tenure.

The appointments mark a new chapter for India’s men’s selection committee, with Ojha set to lead the panel in shaping the national team’s future across formats.
