CJP Protest in Delhi; Abhijit Deepak, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to Be Produced in Court Today

12

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced that its protest against alleged irregularities in electoral rolls will continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns. As part of its ongoing agitation, the party has announced another protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today.

The protest comes a day after around 3,000 people were detained from various locations across Delhi following the CJP’s call to assemble at Jantar Mantar and demand Kumar’s resignation. Police reportedly carried out a large-scale operation to prevent the demonstration.

Among those detained were four former Chief Ministers — Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress founder Mamata Banerjee, Left leader Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar.

Most of the detained individuals were released by Saturday night. However, senior CJP leaders Abhijit Deepak, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, along with YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, remained in police custody. Abhijit Deepak, Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka are scheduled to be produced before a court today.

Meanwhile, Delhi Metro authorities had closed the entry and exit gates of 45 stations on Saturday as a precautionary measure. The affected stations included Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk and Kashmere Gate.

Police have not granted permission for the protest. Authorities have taken several measures to maintain law and order in the national capital amid the continuing political agitation.
