India produced a record-breaking batting display at Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium, chasing down a mammoth 406-run target against the West Indies with eight wickets in hand.

The West Indies, after being sent in to bat, posted a massive 405/7 in their allotted 50 overs. John Campbell smashed a blistering 101 off just 68 deliveries, while captain Shai Hope contributed a composed 104. Amir Jangoo added further damage with a spectacular 114 off 77 balls as the visitors set India one of the biggest targets in ODI cricket.
India, however, responded with an even more extraordinary batting performance.
Captain Shubman Gill led the chase with a breathtaking double century, while Rohit Sharma provided the perfect platform with a commanding hundred. India reached the target in just 43.3 overs, losing only two wickets in the process.
Gill’s innings was the highlight of the night. He brought up his double century in only 117 balls, registering the second double hundred of his international career and setting a new record for the fastest double century in men’s ODI cricket. Before this, Ishan Kishan held the record after reaching his double century from 126 balls.
Rohit Sharma also etched his name into the record books, scoring a century and crossing the landmark of 12,000 ODI international runs during his innings.

Five Centuries in One ODI
The high-scoring encounter also produced a rare batting record, with five centuries scored across the two innings. The West Indies had three centurions in Campbell, Hope and Jangoo, while Rohit and Gill reached three figures for India.
Gill and Rohit’s opening partnership was another major highlight. The pair added 255 runs before the first wicket fell, coming close to the Indian record for the highest opening partnership against the West Indies. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly remain at the top with their 258-run stand against Kenya in 2001.
The night at Barsapara was therefore about far more than just an Indian victory. From a 405-run West Indies total to India’s record chase, two Indian centuries and Gill’s historic double hundred, Guwahati witnessed one of the most remarkable ODI batting spectacles in recent memory.
