‘Ajmal Will Cry on Result Day’; Pijush Hazarika Takes Dig at Opponents During Raha Campaign
Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika stepped up the BJP’s campaign in Kachua, Nagaon, campaigning for BJP candidate Devashish Sharma ahead of the bypoll. Hazarika has also been campaigning for the NDA in different Nagaon constituencies in the run-up to the October 6 election.
Arriving by helicopter at Rajaaali, Hazarika addressed a campaign meeting and launched a sharp attack on the Congress and its leaders while appealing to voters to support Sharma.
Taking aim at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Hazarika said that although Gogoi is a “big leader”, he loses from his own booth. Hazarika contrasted this with his own booth performance, claiming that he had secured 91 per cent of the votes there.
Hazarika also claimed that people earlier had to pay money to get jobs and access various services under Congress governments, while alleging that youths are now getting government jobs without paying bribes.
Targeting Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, Hazarika alleged that Hussain had failed to work for minorities or others and accused him of damaging the Congress organisation. He also referred to the departure of leaders such as Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Bora while attacking Hussain.
Hazarika also took a swipe at AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, saying Ajmal should “take rest” and claiming that he would start crying and continue to do so on the day election results are declared.
On the issue of evictions, Hazarika accused the Congress of using the fear of eviction as a political tool and questioned whether the party could actually stop evictions if they occurred.
Recalling the previous Assembly election, Hazarika said he was disappointed by the BJP’s relatively low vote share in areas including Kachua, Madhavpara and Garubaat. He then claimed that the BJP would secure a 60,000-vote lead in the Raha constituency this time.
The remarks came as campaigning intensifies across the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll constituencies, with BJP and Congress leaders stepping up public meetings and booth-level campaigning.
