Olympic bronze medallist and former world champion Lovlina Borgohain secured her place in India’s boxing team for the upcoming Asian Games and Commonwealth Games with an impressive performance at the national trials held in Patiala on Friday.
Competing in the women’s 75kg category final, Lovlina delivered a dominant display, defeating Sanamacha Chanu 5-0 to confirm her selection for both prestigious multi-sport events.
The 28-year-old boxer had earlier missed a direct qualification opportunity after failing to reach the final at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 in Ulaanbaatar last month. According to the Boxing Federation of India’s selection policy, only boxers who reached the finals at the Asian Championships earned automatic berths for weight categories featured in both events.
However, Lovlina made a strong comeback at the national trials, reaffirming her class and determination on the domestic stage.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medallist, who also won silver at the 2023 Asian Games, will now look to build on her international success as she prepares to represent India once again on the continental and Commonwealth stage.
