Assam Chief Electoral Officer Holds Press Conference on Vote Counting Arrangements

The Chief Electoral Officer of Assam Anurag Goel today addressed a press conference to provide detailed information regarding the upcoming vote counting process for the Assam Legislative Assembly Elections.

Highlighting the massive participation of voters, the Chief Electoral Officer stated that the current elections have recorded the highest-ever voter turnout in the state’s history. With an overall turnout of 86%, this election has broken all previous records. He described it as a “historic election” after 30-35 years.

District-wise Performance:

  • South Salmara district recorded the highest voter turnout.
  • Kamrup Metropolitan district recorded the lowest voter turnout.

The Chief Electoral Officer assured that strict security measures have been put in place for the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). All strong rooms are fully secured with round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. Candidates’ agents are present at every strong room.

Counting Arrangements:

  • Vote counting will take place at 40 locations across the state.
  • One micro-observer (appointed by the Central Government) will be present at every counting table.
  • One IAS officer has been appointed as an observer for each of the 126 constituencies.
  • A total of 5,981 counting personnel have been deployed.

He further informed that no political party will be allowed to take out victory processions after the results are declared. Additionally, 25 companies of CRPF have been deployed to secure the EVM storage sites.

The Chief Electoral Officer appealed to all political parties and candidates to maintain peace and harmony during and after the counting process.
