Assam Society of Bangalore Marks Zubeen Garg’s Birthday with Statewide Nahor Plantation Drive

12

The Assam Society of Bangalore celebrated the 53rd birth anniversary of legendary singer Zubeen Garg with a special green initiative — planting Nahor saplings across Bengaluru city. The Nahor tree, deeply symbolic in Assamese culture and closely associated with Zubeen da, was chosen as a tribute to honour his legacy.

Around 500 Nahor saplings were transported all the way from Assam to Bengaluru for this occasion. Members of the society carried out plantation drives at multiple locations across the city, while many saplings were also distributed to individuals who wished to plant them in their home premises.

Adding significance to the initiative, Bommanahalli MLA Sathish Reddy joined the Assam Society team in planting the saplings and appreciated the community for preserving Assamese heritage even outside the state.

The celebration also featured a cake-cutting ceremony and various cultural programmes at the Assam Society of Bangalore office in Indira Nagar — an office that has been renamed “Nahor” in honour of the late icon.

The heartfelt tribute not only celebrated Zubeen Garg’s life and contribution but also promoted environmental consciousness and community bonding among Assamese residents in Bangalore.
