Home Minister Amit Shah Grants Sanction to Proceed in Zubeen Garg Death Case on Singer’s 53rd Birth Anniversary

55

On the 53rd birth anniversary of Assam’s beloved music icon Zubeen Garg, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has granted the required sanction under Section 208 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to move forward with legal proceedings in connection with the singer’s death in Singapore.

Section 208 of the BNSS mandates that in cases where an offence is committed outside India, the trial can proceed in an Indian court only after the Central Government provides prior approval.

Officials said this sanction marks a crucial legal milestone, clearing the way for investigators to file the chargesheet and initiate trial proceedings against the accused.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to filing the chargesheet by December 10, 2025, ensuring that the case progresses in a firm, transparent, and lawful manner.
