8th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards (NE) 2025: Winners Announced

The winners of the 8th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards (North East) 2025 have been officially announced, recognising outstanding achievements in cinema from across the North Eastern region. The awards honour excellence in filmmaking, direction, acting, music, and technical categories.

The Best Film award was won by “Apot” (Khasi), directed and produced by Raphael Warjri. The film received a trophy, certificate, and a cash prize of ₹50,000.

Renowned filmmaker Prakash Deka was adjudged Best Director for his Assamese film “Nora”, while Sanjib Sabhapandit won Best Screenwriter for “Aakash Heno Nadir Naam” (Assamese).

Augustine Kurbah received the Best Music Director award for Apot. The Best Cinematographer honour went to Aniruddha Barua for Taarikh (Assamese), and Manas Protim Goswami was awarded Best Sound Designer for Nora.

In the editing category, Priyakanta Laishram won Best Film Editor for the Manipuri film Oneness. Bhaskar Jyoti Kalita was named Best Art Director for The Woodcutter (Assamese).

Actor Raju Roy won Best Actor (Male) for his performance in Noi Kotha (Assamese), while Rodali Bora received Best Actor (Female) for Burkha – The Veil (Assamese).

Jury’s Special Mention

The Jury’s Special Mention awards were presented to:

  • Jatindra Nath Khanikar (Actor) for Burkha & Gomon (Assamese)
  • Brahmakanya (Assamese), produced and directed by Dhiraj Kashyap
  • Kangbo Aloti (Karbi), directed by Khanjan Kishore Nath

All Special Mention recipients were awarded certificates and mementoes.

The Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards continue to play a significant role in promoting and encouraging regional cinema and creative talent from the North East.
