The 8th Senior and 4th Under-25 National Lawn Bowls Championships are going to be held at Lawn Bowls Green, Sarusajai Sports Complex, Guwahati from the 23 to 29th of September 2023. The Championships are being hosted by Lawn Bowling Association Assam under the aegis of Bowling Federation of India. The Senior Nationals will serve the purpose of qualifiers for the 37th National Games in Goa in October-November 2023.
Altogether 16 states, including host Assam are participating in the Championships. A total of about 275 players and team officials are going to participate in the Championships. All participants are given hotel accommodation. The participants will include all the top Lawn Bowls players of the country, Secretary of Lawn Bowling Association Assam, Naba Basumatary, said.
The Assam team comprises: Men – Amal Teron, Putul Sonowal, Bitupan Rabha, Dipanar Sarma, Mridul Bora, Biswajeet Khound, Ananda Kr Narzary (Manager); Women Nayan Moni Saikia, Zeena Baruah, Tania Choudhury, Ananya Saikia, Bangita Hazarika, Adinita Kakati, Parismita Gogoi (Manager); Team coach – Anup Choudhury.
About defending champions Assam’s prospects in the Championships, the Lawn Bowling Association Assam was hopeful of retaining the champion’s trophy with a rich medal haul.
The lawn Bowling Association Assam is hosting the Championships with active support from Directorate of Sports, Assam, SLAC for Students and Youth Welfare, Sports Authority of Assam, Round Table India, NRDS, Chirang Motors, Ladies Circle India, Hotel GS Residency. Besides, the office bearers of Lawn Bowling Association Assam are also chipping in with generous contributions for the success of the Championships, said Basumatary.
The Opening Ceremony of the Championships will be held at 12 noon on the 23 of September 2023. The Closing and Medal Ceremony of the Championships will be held at 4 pm on the 29th of September 2023.
