Those above poverty line will now have to return ration cards

Guwahati, June 26 (NKTV): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today held a meeting with registrars of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, cooperative departments and cooperative societies in the conference hall of his office at Janata Bhawan to take into account the entire arrangements being implemented under the National Food Security Act in the state.

At the start of the meeting, a presentation was made on various aspects of this relationship. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs to make arrangements for the roll back of the card by the beneficiary across the poverty line availing ration cards.

He said the move will benefit the beneficiaries who are below poverty line. The chief minister said the department will get a certain amount of money from the budget to be paid to the gaon panchayat cooperative societies from now on. Addressing the meeting on the reduction in transportation cost of food items, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that cooperative societies will have to play the role of observers and monitors in the right way from now on to facilitate proper implementation of the National Food Security Act. The chief minister also directed to regularise the number of affordable goods shops as per the number of ration card subscribers.
