Suicide Bombing at Police Check Post in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan Kills 11, Injures 30

At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured after a suspected suicide bombing targeted a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Saturday, according to authorities and local news agencies.

The explosion took place at the Aman Mela Check Post in the Darazinda area. Initial reports said an explosives-laden vehicle allegedly rammed into the checkpoint before exploding. Emergency service Rescue 1122 said its teams recovered the bodies from the scene and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Additional police personnel were sent to the area as rescue and security operations continued. Authorities were still assessing the exact nature of the attack, while there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

The blast comes amid a rise in militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in districts close to Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. Police and other security personnel have increasingly been targeted in the region in recent months.

Dera Ismail Khan has also witnessed militant attacks in the past. In February, separate attacks targeted police and security posts in and around the district.

Militant violence has increased sharply in Pakistan’s northwestern regions, with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) among the groups active in the area. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused militants based in Afghanistan of carrying out attacks, a charge denied by Afghanistan’s Taliban government.
