Nepal flood horror: 162 killed, 142 Indians missing

At least 162 people have died and more than 400 others are missing after a sudden and devastating flash flood swept through parts of Nepal on Wednesday. Among those reported missing are 142 Indian nationals.

The flash flood struck the Bhote Koshi River area at around 9 am local time, with the surge reportedly originating from the direction of Tibet. The sudden rise in water levels triggered widespread destruction in the Rasuwa district, particularly in Timure and nearby Syafrubesi.

According to the Nepal Army, the powerful floodwaters swept away vehicles, goods, buildings and other property, leaving a trail of destruction across the region. Several villages and project sites were also affected by the disaster.

The scale of the devastation has prompted a major rescue and relief operation. The Nepal Army has deployed 14 helicopters along with disaster response teams to search for missing people and provide emergency assistance to those stranded in affected areas.

The Prime Minister’s Office said personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been deployed across Rasuwa and surrounding areas. Rescue teams are working to locate survivors and intensify relief operations in the worst-hit areas.

With hundreds of people still unaccounted for, authorities fear the death toll could rise further. Rescue and search operations are continuing amid challenging conditions in the flood-affected region.
