A court in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced Muskaan Rastogi and her lover Sahil Shukla to death for the murder of Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput in March 2025. District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra delivered the sentence after the duo were convicted of conspiring to kill Rajput and concealing his dismembered body inside a blue plastic drum filled with cement and sand. The verdict followed 126 hearings and testimonies from 22 witnesses. According to the prosecution, Rastogi allegedly sedated her husband at their home on March 3, 2025, before she and Shukla stabbed him to death and dismembered his body.
The accused allegedly placed the body parts inside the drum and sealed it with a mixture of cement, sand and water to conceal the crime. They later travelled to Himachal Pradesh, where Rastogi allegedly used her husband’s phone to send messages to his family, making it appear that he was still alive.
The case came to light on March 17, 2025, when suspicious relatives visited the residence with local authorities. Police opened the sealed drum and discovered Rajput’s remains. The prosecution relied on circumstantial, forensic and technical evidence, including witness statements, shopkeepers’ testimonies and mobile phone records, to establish the case against the accused.
