Guwahati Police have announced strict guidelines for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations to ensure public safety, security and smooth crowd management across the city.

Addressing the media, Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain said that Puja committees would not be allowed to play loud music through microphones and sound systems after 10 PM.

According to the police, Guwahati is expected to host around 600 Durga Puja celebrations this year, compared to 506 pandals last year.

Puja committees have been directed to deploy volunteers until late at night. Trained volunteers will assist with crowd management, while the installation of CCTV cameras has been made mandatory at Puja pandals. Separate entry and exit routes must also be arranged for men and women.

For idol immersion, special arrangements have been made at Pandu and Lachit Ghat. Measures are being taken to facilitate the transportation of idols into the Brahmaputra. The administration is also discussing arrangements for immersion at Chunsali Ghat, which is expected to open soon.

Guwahati Police have warned of strict action against drunk driving and other violations. Wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers will be mandatory. Police personnel in plain clothes will also be deployed at Puja venues to monitor activities and maintain security.

The police have urged all Puja committees and visitors to follow the guidelines and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a peaceful and safe Durga Puja celebration.
