Khelo India University Games to exhibit the spirit of unity in diversities

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today unveiled the logo for the 4th Khelo India University Games Ashtalakshmi at a glittering function held at Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor stadium at Sarusajai Sports complex here this evening.

It may be noted that Guwahati and other North East States is hosting the games from 19th February where athletes from several universities across the nation are participating for 20 events. 16 of the events will be played in Guwahati where as other four events will be held in other North eastern states. The games will continue upto 29 February.

In the same programme, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma along Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik launched the mascot, the theme song, the jersey and the torch of the game.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that Khelo India University Games is a powerful platform to showcase the intellectually and physically balanced youth potential of the country. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur for allowing North East to host the games. He said that the world-class sports infrastructure in Guwahati will help the five thousand sports persons to showcase their sporting acumen.  He also said that the sporting events will provide a platform for university athletes from across the country to compete with the best and get noticed at the bigger platform.

The Chief Minister said that Assam has the experience of holding sports events like National Game, South Asian Games, and other international sports events. Therefore, State government is confident to host the Khelo India University Games impressively and with grand success. He also said that the event will showcase the spirit of unity in diversities.

The Khelo India University Games – Ashtalakshmi 2023 will feature an array of sporting disciplines including Athletics, Rugby, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, Badminton, Hockey, Fencing, Kabaddi, Football, Tennis, Mallakhamb, Judo, Table Tennis, Boxing, Shooting, Weightlifting, Archery, Wrestling, and Yogasana, the event embodies the essence of unity in diversity.

Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik also spoke on the occasion which was organised by Sports Youth Welfare Department. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Handloom and Textile Minister UG Brahma, host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
