India’s women’s recurve archery team created history at the 2026 Asian Games, defeating 10-time Olympic champions South Korea 5–3 to win a maiden Asian Games gold medal on Friday.
Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma and 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod held their nerve in challenging windy conditions to secure the historic victory. India had earlier defeated China 5–1 in the semifinal.
The gold is India’s 11th gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games and the country’s fourth gold in archery at the Games.
The Indian women’s recurve team had won bronze at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
