India Slams Pakistan at UN, Reaffirms Jammu and Kashmir as an Integral Part of the Country

14

India has strongly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations for allegedly spreading false claims about Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that the Union Territory is, and will always remain, an integral and inalienable part of India.

India exercised its Right of Reply during a discussion on decolonisation at the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Member of Parliament Mahima Kumari Mewar responded to a statement made by Pakistan’s representative. According to a post by India at the UN in New York on X, Mewar accused Pakistan of misusing the international forum to spread false narratives about Jammu and Kashmir.

She also raised concerns over alleged human rights violations in areas under Pakistan’s control, calling on Islamabad to address the situation. Mewar alleged that Pakistani forces and their proxies had killed civilians protesting for their rights and access to basic necessities.

India Emphasises Accountability at the United Nations

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Priya Saroj delivered India’s national statement at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee under Agenda Item 75, which concerns the criminal accountability of United Nations officials and experts on mission.

According to India at the UN, Saroj emphasised India’s zero-tolerance policy towards criminal conduct and misconduct by personnel. She also called for stronger cooperation between the United Nations and its member states, along with effective mechanisms to ensure accountability.

India Warns Pakistan Against Nuclear Threats

India has also warned Pakistan that nuclear threats will not deter it from responding to terrorism and that any terrorist attack will invite an appropriate response.

Anmol Sher Bedi, Senior Adviser to India’s Permanent Mission to the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, made the remarks while addressing a meeting of the UN General Assembly’s First Committee in New York.

Bedi said India would make no distinction between those who sponsor terrorism and those who mastermind terrorist attacks.

Operation Sindoor Cited as an Act of Self-Defence

Referring to Operation Sindoor, launched last year following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 civilians, Bedi said India had exercised its right to self-defence through measured and targeted actions intended to prevent further escalation.

He stressed that nuclear weapons should not be used as instruments of routine state policy. He also warned that using nuclear threats to shield terrorist activities could increase the risk of escalation and undermine regional stability.

India Raises Concerns Over Nuclear Proliferation

Bedi also expressed concerns over nuclear proliferation, referring to the history of the Abdul Qadeer Khan network. He urged countries to exercise caution when engaging in nuclear and advanced military cooperation with Pakistan.

India’s statements at the United Nations underline New Delhi’s continued opposition to terrorism, its position on Jammu and Kashmir, and its call for greater international accountability and responsible nuclear policies.
