India-Belgium Sign 10 Defence Industry Deals During PM De Wever’s New Delhi Visit

Agreements cover local rocket assembly, ammunition production and naval systems, with 15 Belgian companies joining hands with Indian partners

India and Belgium have signed 10 defence industry agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in defence manufacturing and technology. The agreements were announced as Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever began his three-day visit to New Delhi.

The deals involve 15 Belgian companies and focus on expanding local defence production in India. Key areas include rocket assembly, ammunition manufacturing and naval defence systems, combining Belgian technology and expertise with India’s growing domestic manufacturing capabilities.

During his visit, Prime Minister De Wever held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a range of issues, including defence and security cooperation, bilateral trade and regional developments.

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also held discussions with his Belgian counterpart Theo Francken. The two sides signed memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening defence training, military exchanges and joint exercises between India and Belgium.

The agreements come as both countries seek to build more durable industrial partnerships in the defence sector. With bilateral trade currently valued at around $13 billion, the new defence deals are expected to expand economic and technological cooperation while strengthening supply chains and local manufacturing.

The partnership also reflects the two countries’ shared emphasis on democratic values, strategic cooperation and a rules-based international order.
