BJP’s star political leader, Himanta Biswa Sarma, is to take oath as the next and new chief minister of Assam. After a series of marathon meetings at JP Nadda’s residence in New Delhi, it was decided by the parliamentary board of BJP that Himanta Biswa Sarma is to be the new chief minister.

All speculations now come to rest after six days of election results being out. Himanta Biswa Sarma previously served as the health, education minister of Assam and also held other portfolios in Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet from 2016 to 2021.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was born in 1st February, 1969 and served as MLA from Jalukbari constituency in Assam from 2001 till 2015 with Indian National Congress and from May 2016 as a Bharatiya Janata Party member.

A former member of the Indian National Congress, Sarma joined Bharatiya Janata Party on 23rd August 2015.
