With the objective of promoting local young talents, the Guwahati Sports Association has decided to bar foreigners from playing in the Guwahati Football Leagues. After a discussion with 36 affiliated Football Clubs of the city, the GSA has taken the decision. Explaining about the move, President Pulak Goswami and General Secretary Dhrubajyoti Kalita told that there is no dearth of football talents in the state. But, due to lack of opportunities, most of the local players could not shine at the highest level. Therefore, the GSA has taken the decision to bar foreigners in the Guwahati Leagues so that more local young talents get opportunities to showcase their talent. However, clubs can register foreigners for other tournaments. On the other hand, the GSA has also decided to make Medical insurance of every player and inclusion of four Under 21 players in the team mandatory. The GSA is also considering to ban players who is reported by the concerned club of playing unauthorized games.
On the other hand, the Football Secretary of the GSA L Pranab Singh informed that the 2022-23 Football season of the GSA will start from 6th of June with C Division Qualifying League. Inter club clearance of all divisions will be from 7 to 9th of June from 5 to 7 PM. Withdrawal will be on 10th of June from 5 to 7 PM. Player registration for C and B Division will be from 15 to 18 June. C and B Division Leagues will start from 19 June. N N Bhatta Knockout Football Tournament will start from 15 July. Players registration for A and Super Division will be from 15 to 20 July. A Division Football League will start from 22 July. Schedule for Super Division Football League, Bordoloi Trophy along with first ever Inter Club Women’s League, U13 and U16 League and Inter School Tournament will be announced later, told a statement released by the GSA.
