CM Dr. Sarma inspects major healthcare and sports infrastructure projects at Amingaon
Dr. Sarma stresses quality healthcare, world-class sports infrastructure and integrated traffic management
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inspected the progress of major healthcare, sports and urban infrastructure projects in and around Amingaon, including AIIMS Guwahati at Changsari, the 20,000-seater international-standard cricket stadium under construction at Amingaon and the proposed Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility near the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office of Kamrup.
The Chief Minister first visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati, at Changsari and reviewed the medical services, infrastructure and various ongoing activities of the premier healthcare institution. He interacted with doctors, officers and other healthcare personnel to take stock of the functioning of the institution and the services being provided to patients.
During the visit, Dr. Sarma held discussions with the Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, Prof. Dr. Ashok Puranik, on steps required to further strengthen patient-centric healthcare services and ensure that people visiting the institution receive quality treatment along with adequate facilities and amenities.
AIIMS Guwahati has emerged as an important institution for providing advanced healthcare services to the people of Assam and the wider North-Eastern region. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that the institution continues to expand its capacity and provide accessible and high-quality healthcare services.
The Chief Minister thereafter inspected the international-standard cricket stadium under construction at Amingaon and reviewed the progress of the project. He took stock of various components of the state-of-the-art sporting facility and the associated infrastructure being developed in the area.
The cricket stadium being built forms part of a larger sports infrastructure ecosystem being developed at Amingaon, which includes modern facilities such as the National Centre of Excellence for Badminton and a High-Performance Swimming Centre. The integrated sports infrastructure is expected to strengthen Assam’s sporting ecosystem and enhance the State’s capacity to host national and international sporting events.
Dr. Sarma also inspected the site of the proposed Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) near the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office, Kamrup and the cricket stadium. He reviewed the proposed arrangements for adequate parking facilities for visitors and the requirements relating to traffic management, connectivity and other supporting infrastructure in view of the development of the large sports complex.
The Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to ensure close coordination among all agencies involved in the various projects. He stressed the need for integrated planning of parking, traffic movement, connectivity and other supporting facilities so that the infrastructure serves the public efficiently and contributes to the smooth functioning of the entire development area. He also directed that the projects be completed within the stipulated timelines while maintaining the required standards of quality.
The inspection underlined the State Government’s focus on developing advanced healthcare facilities along with modern, integrated sports and urban infrastructure, with the objective of strengthening Assam’s capacity to provide quality public services and emerge as a destination for major sporting events.
MLA Diganta Kalita, Kamrup District Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra and other senior functionaries were present during the inspection.
