CBI Arrests NAAC Chairman, JNU Professor Among 7 Over Bribery For Accreditation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested the chairman and six members of a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Inspection Committee, including a professor from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), in connection with a corruption case linked to securing a favourable NAAC rating, news agency PTI reported.

“The CBI carried out a search operation and recovered alleged undue advantage paid to the NAAC Inspection Team members by the office bearers of the said educational foundation, in the form of cash, gold, mobile phones, and laptops. The investigation is continuing,” the CBI stated, as per news agency ANI.

The searches are being conducted at 20 locations across India, including Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Palamu, Sambalpur, Bhopal, Bilaspur, Gautam Budh Nagar, and New Delhi. According to the CBI, investigators have recovered approximately ₹37 lakh in cash, six Lenovo laptops, one iPhone 16 Pro, and other incriminating items, ANI reported.
