Bokakhat clinch Kanaklata Barua Women’s Inter-District Cricket Tournament

In a thrilling final match of the Kanaklata Barua Women’s Inter-District Cricket Tournament, Bokakhat emerged victorious over Dibrugarh by 9 wickets. The match was held in Goalpara on Wednesday.

Bokakhat won the toss and elected to field first. It turned out to be a wise decision as Dibrugarh struggled to get going, losing wickets at regular intervals. The entire team was bundled out for a meager score of 46 runs in just 22.4 overs. Gayatri Gurung top-scored for Dibrugarh with 13 runs, while Rashmi Dey was the pick of the bowlers for Bokakhat, taking 3 wickets for just 3 runs. Pallak Kumari also chipped in with 2 wickets for 2 runs.

Chasing a modest target of 47 runs, Bokakhat got off to a steady start with openers Avantika Munda and Tinamoni Patgiri putting on 21 runs for the first wicket. Although Munda was dismissed for 15, Tinamoni and Uma Chetry made sure that there were no further hiccups as they guided their team to victory in just 12.1 overs. Tinamoni remained unbeaten on 12, while Chetry was not out on 9.

Rashmi Dey was named the player of the match for her excellent bowling performance. She had also played a crucial role in the semifinal, where she had taken 3 wickets to help Bokakhat beat Lakhimpur.

The Kanaklata Barua Women’s Inter-District Cricket Tournament is an annual event that aims to promote women’s cricket in Assam. It features teams from various districts competing against each other. The tournament has seen a tremendous response over the years, with an increasing number of women taking up cricket in the state.

Prize distribution and announcement of scholarship:

The office bearers of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) including its Secretary Tridib Konwar, Vice President Rajdeep Oja, Joint Secretary Rajendra Singh, Treasurer Chiranjit Langthasa and CEO Pritam Mahanta among others were present during the prize distribution ceremony after the final.

ACA Secretary Konwar announced a monthly scholarship of Rs 1,000 for every Under-15 girl who represent their district in the ACA-conducted tournaments. They will be entitled to the scholarship till they are in the U15 age group.
On the occasion, the ACA office bearers also inspected the training facilities at the Goalpara DSA ground.

Best batter: Gayatri Gurung of Dibrugarh (235 runs)
Best bowler: Rima Pegu of Bokakhat (12 wickets)
Player of the final: Rashmi Dey of Bokakhat (6-4-3-3)
Player of the tournament: Rashmi Dey (198 runs & 10 wickets)
