Guwahati, June 14 (NKTV): The annual loss for power theft and electricity bill unpaid in the state’s power sector is Rs 300 crore. The government plans to recover the revenue of all the three power companies. This was disclosed by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a press conference at Bijulee Bhawan. The press conference came at the end of a meeting with APDCL-APGCL-AEGCL.

Addressing the press conference, the Chief Minister said that regular billers have also had to pay electricity charges to those who steal. There is a problem in charging electricity bills in some places (char-sapari, hilly areas). We plan to recover the lost revenue of all the three power companies APDCL, APGCL and AEGCL respectively. The government will be tough on power theft. The focus will be on ensuring that the common man does not have to bear the electricity bill more for those who steal electricity.

The CM asked the companies to plug revenue loss and design modalities to increase their revenue earnings and profits including an energised service delivery system for consumers. Among others, he asked Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. to prepare a list of cement companies & other high valued consumers; tally their production with GST returns & electricity bill. This will be done to bring in semblance between total quantum of electricity consumed and electricity bill paid.
