Assam prepares for third wave of Covid

Guwahati, June 22 (NKTV): Assam is on alert after the possibility of a third wave of Covid-19 in the nation is on the cards. The Health Department of the Government of Assam has asked all the Medical College and Hospitals to immediately step up the infrastructure for childcare. Reportedly, the third wave shall hit the population below 18 years the most.

A target of achieving 1,000 Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) has been set in Assam, with a minimum of 10 units in each district of the state.

State Health Secretary Anurag Goel on Monday said “In the next six to eight weeks, we should be ready with a large number of Paediatric ICUs so that if critical cases come in, we can handle them efficiently”.

Goel informed that out of the total positive cases in the second wave, around 10% of the cases were of below 18 years.
