Sensation has gripped the city following the recovery of a partially decomposed body of a woman near Ganesh Mandir in Khanapara. There are suspicions that unidentified miscreants may have murdered the woman and dumped her body at the location. The body was found wrapped in a sack.
According to reports, some local residents spotted parts of the woman’s hands and legs early in the morning. They immediately informed the police. Dispur Police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Subsequently, the body was recovered in the presence of a magistrate and a forensic team.
The deceased is suspected to be a woman identified as Jina Baishya. She had reportedly gone missing from Khanapara a few days ago. Her family members had also informed Basistha Police and Meghalaya Police about her disappearance.
Meanwhile, Jina Baishya’s husband has made serious allegations regarding her suspected death. According to him, the clothes and bangles found on the recovered body match those worn by his wife. However, the identity of the deceased has not yet been officially confirmed by the police.
The husband stated that Jina had left home on Sunday afternoon, saying that she would stay with her sister at the ESIC Hospital. However, when he made enquiries on Monday, he came to know that she had never visited the hospital.
He further expressed suspicion that someone associated with the betting game of ‘Teer’ might have abducted and murdered his wife. He alleged that someone may have been targeting her and that she could have been subjected to sexual assault before being killed. However, these allegations are yet to be independently verified.
The husband also claimed that the recovered body was in a highly decomposed condition, suggesting that she might have been murdered several days ago and her body dumped at the location.
The incident has triggered widespread concern in the area. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the exact cause of death, while also probing the circumstances surrounding the woman’s disappearance.
