The Sivasagar district administration is set to carry out an eviction drive at Yamunamukh Wetland today against alleged illegal encroachments. The decision was taken following a meeting between AATASU and the district administration.
It may be mentioned that three days ago, AATASU had launched its own eviction drive against encroachments at Yamunamukh Wetland. During the operation, AATASU members demolished houses allegedly built on encroached land in the wetland area.
Subsequently, on November 6, AATASU announced a 12-hour Sivasagar district bandh in protest against the encroachments.
However, following discussions with the district administration, it was decided that the administration would conduct an official eviction drive on November 7.
After the administration agreed to take action against the alleged encroachments, AATASU withdrew its call for the district-wide bandh.
The administration’s move is aimed at clearing the alleged illegal encroachments from Yamunamukh Wetland.
