15th Death Anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Observed at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra
The 15th death anniversary of the legendary artiste and Bharat Ratna awardee Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika is being observed across Assam through various programmes. People across the state are paying tribute to the iconic cultural figure through music, remembrance and heartfelt homage.
On this occasion, a special programme has been organised at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra under the initiative of the Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Trust and Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra Society, with the support of the Cultural Affairs Department of the Assam Government.
The solemn programme, titled ‘Mahamilanar Tirtha’, is being held at the Damodardev Auditorium of Kalakshetra. The event began with a public tribute to Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. The auditorium resonated with naam-prasanga, adding a spiritual touch to the occasion.
Along with cultural performances, the programme also features special sessions commemorating the life and contributions of the legendary artiste.
During the event, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will be conferred with the ‘Bhupen Hazarika Samanway Award’. Social worker Samay Gogoi will receive the ‘Bhupen Hazarika Hitaishi Award’.
A collection of Bhupen Hazarika’s Bengali songs will also be unveiled during the programme. Additionally, 101 earthen lamps will be lit in memory of the legendary singer.
Meanwhile, several programmes are also being organised at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samanway Tirtha in Jalukbari to pay tribute to the maestro.
At Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has organized a special tribute programme. As a mark of respect, the student organisation has undertaken an initiative to light 10,000 earthen lamps in memory of Sudhakantha.
Through his timeless songs, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika spread the messages of humanity, unity and universal brotherhood. On his 15th death anniversary, people across Assam are remembering the legendary artiste with deep respect and admiration.
