The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced nationwide protests on Monday against remarks allegedly made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father. The party has described the remarks as “insulting, indecent and offensive.”
According to a statement issued by the BJP, demonstrations will be held at party headquarters across all states on Monday in response to Kharge’s remarks in Patna, which the party termed highly objectionable and an attack on the dignity of the Prime Minister’s family.
BJP leaders alleged that the comments crossed the limits of political discourse and amounted to a personal attack rather than criticism of the government’s policies or performance.
The party further argued that targeting the family members of political leaders, particularly those who have passed away, lowers the standard of public debate.
The BJP has directed its state units to organise peaceful but firm protests at their respective party offices. Party workers and leaders are expected to participate in large numbers to express their opposition to the remarks.
BJP spokespersons said the demonstrations would send a clear message that such comments would not be tolerated. Senior party leaders have also demanded an unconditional apology from Kharge, maintaining that political differences should not lead to personal insults.
They emphasised that public life in a democracy must be guided by basic standards of decency and mutual respect.
Meanwhile, the Congress has not issued an immediate clarification on the matter, according to the information available in the report.
The controversy is likely to intensify the political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress in the coming days. With the BJP preparing for protests across the country, attention will be focused on the scale of the demonstrations and the responses from both parties.
