Devashish Sharma Receives Victory Certificate as Himanta Biswa Sarma Calls Congress Defeat Its Worst-Ever Electoral Loss
BJP candidate Devashish Sharma received his certificate of victory from Nagaon District Commissioner and Returning Officer Aranyak Saikia, triggering celebrations among BJP workers across the state.
Soon after receiving the certificate, Sharma was heard humming the iconic song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on the Congress following its electoral defeat. Describing the outcome as the worst electoral defeat in the party’s history, Sarma pointed out that religious minorities account for 62 per cent of the constituency’s voters, while the Congress secured only 9 per cent of the votes. Commenting on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, the Chief Minister said there was little to discuss regarding him, asserting that Gogoi was no match for the BJP. Sarma further stated that the BJP’s next electoral battle would be against AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal. He added that future political confrontations and electoral contests would primarily be with Ajmal, reiterating that Gaurav Gogoi could not challenge the BJP politically.
