Headmaster of Bhangnamari High School Suspended Over Question Paper Theft

The Headmaster of Bhangnamari High School in Bijni, Chirang, has been placed under suspension in connection with the theft of Class X half-yearly examination question papers.

A mysterious theft took place at the school on September 27, when miscreants allegedly broke open the lock of a cupboard at night and stole bundles of Class X examination question papers.

A bundle containing Arabic question papers was reportedly stolen, while bundles of Mathematics, Science and Hindi question papers were later recovered in a torn condition. Allegations of question paper leakage were subsequently raised.

Following the incident, examinations in the affected subjects were cancelled. The cancelled examinations are scheduled to be held on October 14.

Various organisations had demanded a proper investigation into the incident and strict action against those responsible. The name of school Headmaster Abdul Manjan was also linked to the matter.

According to the official order issued by the Inspector of Schools, Chirang District Circle, the inquiry committee found that the confidential question papers were not kept securely and termed the lapse as gross negligence and dereliction of duty. The order also noted that an FIR was not lodged promptly and that the incident was not immediately reported to the concerned authorities.

Abdul Manjan has therefore been placed under suspension with immediate effect, subject to the approval of the Director of Education, BTC, Kokrajhar. He has also been directed to hand over charge of the school to the next senior-most eligible teacher.
