BRICS Warns of Nuclear Risks, Calls for Safety Amid Conflicts
BRICS leaders have expressed serious concern over deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities, stressing that nuclear safety must be protected even during armed conflicts.
In the New Delhi Declaration, adopted at the BRICS Summit hosted by India, the leaders also warned of the growing risks of nuclear danger and conflict. They called for stronger efforts on disarmament, arms control and nuclear non-proliferation to safeguard global peace and security.
The declaration did not name any country and avoided directly mentioning the US strikes on Iran or Iranian attacks on Gulf Arab nations. The consensus came after differences between the UAE and Iran over the West Asia conflict were addressed.
The leaders also backed the creation and strengthening of nuclear-weapon-free zones, including efforts to establish a nuclear- and WMD-free zone in the Middle East.
