Sehwag’s son makes India U19 cut after impressive run

Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, has earned his maiden India U19 call-up after being named in the squad for the three-match One-Day series against Australia in Rajkot in September.

The right-handed batter has been rewarded for his recent performances, including his stint with the West Delhi Lions in the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2026. Aaryavir has impressed with his aggressive strokeplay, drawing comparisons with his legendary father. He had earlier grabbed attention during the 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy, smashing a remarkable 297 against Meghalaya.

Wicketkeeper-batter Anvay Dravid, son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has also retained his place in the One-Day squad. Anvay impressed during India U19’s tour of Sri Lanka in July, scoring a valuable 87. However, neither Aaryavir nor Anvay has been included in the squad for the two Multi-Day fixtures against Australia.

Lakshya Raichandani will captain India in the three One-Day matches, with Yashbardhan Chauhan named as his deputy. The two will exchange roles for the Multi-Day series, with Chauhan taking over as captain and Raichandani serving as vice-captain.

The three One-Day matches will be played in Rajkot on September 18, 21 and 23. Rajkot will then host the first Multi-Day fixture from September 27 to 30, while the second match will be played at Ahmedabad’s B Ground from October 5 to 8.

Aaryavir’s selection marks an important milestone in his young career and adds another chapter to the Sehwag family’s connection with Indian cricket.
